The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that the Regional Coordinating Council is considering organising an annual or bi-annual event to educate students about the Ashanti culture.
According to him, the Ashanti festival will become an annual event, giving every young person in the country or region the opportunity to experience the rich Ashanti culture.
Addressing journalists on the sidelines of the “pilgrimage to Fomena, the ‘Sagranti War'” as part of the AshantiFest, the minister agreed with historians who proposed organising such events every six months.
Dr. Amoakohene also indicated plans to involve the Ghana Education Service in rolling out such an initiative to organise the students to make them part and parcel of the event.
Meanwhile, the minister further reiterated that the event was organised as an avenue to serve our culture and history to the new generation.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene highlighted that this will enable modernisation not to carry our culture and history.
On the lessons learnt, the minister added that the drama has taught us to cherish the peace we are enjoying today.
He also added that it brings to light the value of the reparation advocacy resolution that was led by President John Dramani Mahama at the UN.
He again noted that it is very important because the artefacts that were looted will be brought back, so it will help this generation to have a feel of what our forefathers left behind.
“We had in mind that we would have it annually so that we can give every young person in the region the opportunity to experience it. But as it is emerging that we have it every six months, if we are unable to have it on a grand scale, we will engage the Ghana Education Service so that they can be organising the students from time to time to have such an experience.”
