Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has criticised the organisational structure of Ghana’s two major political parties, the NPP and NDC, insisting that well-prepared independent candidates can outperform them.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, April 8, A-Plus attributed his 2024 election victory to careful planning and a robust constituency structure.

“NPP and NDC, they are not organised. If you have serious individuals in constituencies, they will beat them,” he said.

He explained that he established an “unbeatable” system in his constituency, which contributed to his results being the first to be declared nationwide in 2024.

Highlighting the importance of preparation, A-Plus said he had gained practical knowledge through years of study before entering politics.

“After about 45 minutes of the election, I wrote on Facebook that I have won because I won’t go to GIMPA, study research methods, and not know what I am doing on the grounds. That school fees will never go free. That is why I spent a certain number of years going into school before entering politics. I wanted to get a certain understanding of things,” he explained.

He also detailed the tools and resources that aided his success, including 123 polling stations, trained agents, his own collation app, and reliable internet. “It benefitted the people and me too,” he noted.
