A 34-year-old woman has died after slipping and falling from a footbridge into a drain at Aburukutoaso, a suburb of Mampong, during a heavy downpour on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Felicia Asamoah, a native of Bosofour near Mampong, reportedly fell into the drain at about 8:00 p.m. on April 20, 2026, while attempting to cross the footbridge.
An eyewitness said Asamoah lost her footing on the bridge due to the rain and drowned.
A search team was deployed to rescue her, but was unable to locate her until the following morning, Tuesday, April 21, when her body was found in a pool of water.
Speaking to Citi News, the Assembly Member for the Aburukutoaso Electoral Area, Alexander Asamoah, confirmed the incident and disclosed that it is the second time a similar tragedy has occurred in the area.
He called on authorities to implement measures to prevent future incidents.

“I am calling on authorities to take urgent steps to fix the gutter and prevent future occurrences,” he said.
The body has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy, while police have begun investigations into the incident.
