Veronica Asantewaa Yeboah has made history by becoming the first female Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency following the party’s constituency executive elections held on Saturday, July 11.
She won the closely contested election with 1,102 votes, defeating three other candidates—Desmond Asamoah Korankye, Francis Tay and Rejoice Yibor.
According to results certified and declared by the Electoral Commission (EC), a total of 2,069 votes were cast, with 2,057 valid votes and 12 rejected ballots.
Desmond Asamoah Korankye secured 613 votes, Francis Tay polled 188 votes, while Rejoice Yibor obtained 154 votes.
Asantewaa, who previously served as the constituency’s Deputy Youth Organiser, contested for the substantive position and emerged victorious, becoming the first woman to hold the office in the constituency.
Speaking to Citi News after her victory was declared, she said she was prepared for the responsibility that comes with the position.
She pledged to work tirelessly to reorganise and strengthen the party’s youth wing while promoting unity among members ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“I was already aware and ready for the task ahead; I have what it takes to do the work; my people know me and believe I can do the work. I pray we all come together and win the 2028 elections,” she said, adding that her priority would be to mobilise and unite the youth to help secure victory for the NPP in the next general elections.
Her election marks a milestone for the party in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, where the Youth Organiser position has traditionally been occupied by men.
