The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Ziedeng, has launched an initiative to support candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) by providing daily meals and essential exam materials.
In a message to candidates across the constituency, the MP announced that each student will receive one hot meal per day throughout the examination period, aimed at easing stress and ensuring they remain focused during the papers.
In addition, every candidate is being provided with a mathematical set to assist them in their exams.
Describing the BECE as a critical milestone in the academic journey of students, the MP noted that the intervention is intended to create a conducive environment for candidates to perform to the best of their abilities.
“This is one of the most important exams in your educational career. It marks the beginning of your progression to senior high school and beyond,” he stated.
He encouraged candidates not to be intimidated, noting that although it is their first external examination, they have been adequately prepared by their teachers. He urged them to remain calm, follow instructions, and approach each paper with confidence.
The MP also cautioned students against engaging in examination malpractice, stressing that success achieved through honest effort is more rewarding and sustainable.
“Please avoid all forms of malpractice. You can pass without cheating, and that is the best way to go,” he advised.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by parents and education stakeholders in the Lawra District, who say it will significantly reduce the burden on candidates and help improve concentration during the examination period.
The BECE serves as the gateway for placement into senior high schools in Ghana, making it a crucial step in the educational advancement of students across the country.
