Former Okaikwei North MP, Fuseini Issah, has questioned the competence of Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo, saying she has “time and again” proven herself unfit for the position following her controversial remarks about postings to Northern Ghana.
His remarks come after the minister faced public backlash over comments perceived to suggest that transferring public or civil servants to Northern Ghana amounted to punishment.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, May 7, Fuseini Issah said the issue was not about the relevance of the regional minister position, but rather the competence of persons appointed to occupy such offices.
According to him, regional ministers play a critical coordinating role and therefore require individuals who are competent and measured in their public comments.
“We need competent people. This minister, time and again, has proven that she does not even understand the role she is supposed to play. Time and again, she’s proven that she does not appreciate the reason why she is in office. I think the appointing authority should have a second look at her,” he added.
He also questioned whether Linda Ocloo remains the right person to lead affairs in the Greater Accra Region, insisting that such positions should not be treated as rewards for political loyalty or long service.
However, Linda Ocloo has since clarified her remarks, describing them as a “genuine slip in communication.” According to her, the comments do not reflect her personal views or government policy regarding postings within Ghana’s public service.
