Octagon Foundation has presented 800 pieces of bottled water to candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Kenyasi, a mining town in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

Each of the 750 candidates and their invigilators and supervisors received bottled water.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a short presentation ceremony at Kenyasi, Mr Samuel Donkor-Baah, the Co-Director of the Octagon Hotel said the hotel set up the foundation to execute its Corporate Social Responsibility programme in giving back to society.

He said the foundation placed high value on the holistic upbringing and development of children, saying that the gesture was meant to support and motivate the candidates to write and pass the BECE, and urged them to be studious and confident.

Mr Donkor-Baah said the foundation had consistently supported young people in the local communities in the Ahafo Region through various initiatives, saying that: “This donation is a continuation of our efforts”.

“We have a special place for children in our community, and we believe in supporting them, especially at crucial moments like this”, he stated.

Mr Donkor-Baah pledged to sustain the gesture and making it an annual event aimed at motivating and assisting BECE candidates in the area.

He expressed appreciation to the District Directorate of Education, school authorities and representatives for their selfless services towards promoting education and ensuring that school children in the area achieve quality education.

Mr Donkor-Baah further urged teachers in the area to redouble their efforts to enhance the academic performance of students and pupils, asking families to invest much of their resources in the education of their children and wards.

He stressed that quality education remained the best legacy families could bequeath their children and wards, and advised students in the area to concentrate on their books instead of roaming around.
