Abigail Opoku, the pregnant woman who died at the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa under controversial circumstances, has been laid to rest amid deep sorrow and emotional scenes from family, friends, and sympathisers.

The burial service, held on Saturday, May 9 was marked by wailing and grief as mourners struggled to come to terms with her death, which has sparked allegations of medical negligence against the facility.

Abigail reportedly died while in labour after the hospital allegedly failed to carry out a requested caesarean section, citing a lack of available beds in the recovery ward.

According to the family, she was initially taken to a private health facility for delivery but was later referred to the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital after labour became prolonged.

Her sister told Citi News that upon arrival, repeated appeals for an emergency caesarean section were declined by medical staff, who reportedly explained that there were no vacant beds available to accommodate her after surgery.

The family says Abigail died nearly 36 hours after being admitted, with her baby still in her womb.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 26, has triggered public concern, with relatives insisting that similar cases may have occurred at the facility in the past.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
