The Coalition of Local Executives of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has issued a warning to government and relevant authorities over the continued delay in the payment of bursaries for graduate students for the 2023/2024 academic year.
In a press statement dated May 11, 2026, the coalition expressed deep frustration and disappointment over what it described as prolonged neglect of graduate students across tertiary institutions in the country.
According to the coalition, the delay in the disbursement of the bursaries has plunged many graduate students into severe financial hardship, affecting their ability to carry out research, purchase academic materials, undertake fieldwork and continue their studies smoothly.
The statement explained that for several months, affected students and GRASAG leadership had remained patient while engaging the relevant authorities through diplomatic channels in an attempt to resolve the issue.
The coalition noted that repeated concerns and complaints from graduate students nationwide had been officially communicated to the GRASAG National Secretariat and other stakeholders over the persistent delays.
The executives disclosed that after engagements involving GRASAG National, the Ghana Scholarship Authority and the designated banking institution responsible for disbursing the bursaries, assurances were given that payments would be made between May 5 and May 8, 2026.
According to the statement, all necessary student data had reportedly been submitted approximately five and a half weeks earlier to facilitate the payment process.
However, the coalition said beneficiaries across various tertiary institutions are yet to receive the funds despite the assurances.
The executives warned that the situation has created widespread anxiety, uncertainty and frustration among graduate students who heavily depend on the bursaries to support their academic and research work.
The coalition further stated that the delay has also affected the opening of the bursary application portal for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years, thereby creating additional challenges for prospective applicants across the country.
