Akandoh: Details of ongoing health recruitment will be published

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has addressed growing public concerns surrounding the ongoing recruitment of health professionals, explaining that the process has become extremely competitive because of the overwhelming number of qualified but unemployed workers seeking placement across Ghana.

According to the Minister, the high demand for limited opportunities has placed enormous pressure on the recruitment system, resulting in intense competition among applicants attempting to access the online recruitment portal.

Speaking during an interaction with journalists, Akandoh disclosed that Ghana currently has more than 100,000 unemployed health professionals, while the government is only recruiting 8,000 medical officers in the current phase of employment.

The Minister noted that the huge disparity between the number of job seekers and the available vacancies has created significant challenges for applicants, many of whom have complained about difficulties accessing the recruitment platform.

He explained that the system receives massive traffic within seconds whenever the portal is opened, making the process highly competitive and dependent on several factors, including internet connectivity and timing.

“About 10 people enter every second. Every second, so it is very, very competitive, and it depends on where you are, your connectivity, and all that. I appreciate the concerns, but you know, we have a challenge at this point in time, and so we will do something that everybody’s heart will put to rest.”

He further dismissed claims that the ongoing recruitment exercise is a scam, assuring the public that the process would remain transparent and accountable.

“I have heard people describing it as a scam, saying that no recruitment is being done and all that. Don’t worry, you know how I do my things. At the end of the day, we are going to publish everything.

“We are going to publish it district by district, region by region, where you go for your interview. So if it is a scam, everybody will know.”
