Mahama: Economic stabilisation efforts beginning to yield results

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that his administration inherited a struggling and fragile economy when it assumed office in January 2025, but insists that deliberate efforts by his government have begun yielding positive results in stabilising the situation.

Delivering his Eid-ul-Adha address to the nation at the Independence Square on Wednesday, May 27, the President acknowledged the economic difficulties that confronted the country at the time of transition, noting that the challenges had far-reaching effects on households, businesses, and especially young people seeking employment opportunities.

He explained that since assuming office, his government has prioritised economic stabilisation measures aimed at restoring macroeconomic confidence, strengthening key sectors, and laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and job creation.

According to him, the focus of the administration has been on rebuilding trust in the economy through prudent management, targeted interventions, and policies designed to ease hardship on citizens while promoting long-term development.

“We inherited significant economic difficulties that affected families, businesses and especially young people seeking opportunities. Over the past months, we have worked diligently to stabilise the economy to restore confidence and build a stronger foundation for growth and job creation.”

The President further indicated that recent economic indicators show encouraging signs of recovery, suggesting that the country is gradually moving out of the difficult period it experienced prior to the current administration’s tenure.

He noted that while challenges still remain, the emerging trends point to renewed hope and improved prospects for businesses and individuals across various sectors of the economy.

“Today, I am pleased to report to you that there are signs of recovery and Ghana has renewed hope. Our focus now remains on creating jobs, supporting local enterprises, expanding opportunities for young people and improving living conditions for ordinary Ghanaians.”
