The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has secured 120 job opportunities for Ghanaians who were evacuated from South Africa amid ongoing xenophobic tensions in that country.

According to the Ministry, the opportunities have been provided by Ghanaian business owners as part of efforts to support the reintegration of citizens returning home.

In a public appeal issued on Monday, June 1, the Ministry called on more Ghanaian Chief Executive Officers and entrepreneurs to join the initiative by offering employment opportunities to the evacuees.

“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.

The Ministry disclosed that the Delivery Unit, headed by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, is coordinating the initiative and can be reached through a dedicated contact line for prospective employers.

“So far, we have secured 120 job opportunities from patriotic Ghanaian business owners. Be part of this noble project,” the Ministry added.

The initiative forms part of government efforts to support Ghanaians affected by the recent wave of anti-foreigner sentiment and attacks in South Africa, which prompted evacuation of citizens who wish to return home. So far 300 individuals have been evacuated from South Africa.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, stressing that every effort is being made to ensure the safety, dignity and successful reintegration of all evacuees.

“We value and cherish all our citizens,” the statement noted.
