The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl at Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.

The suspect, Kudjo Ntow, was picked up on June 2, 2026, in relation to the death of Olivia Kwofie, who is said to be the niece of his wife.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 4, the Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim on June 1 before going into hiding.

The police said a key witness, Samuel Kingsford Kwofie, was on his way to his rubber plantation at about 3:30 a.m. on June 1 when he heard someone calling for help near the School B area, close to the Fire Service Station at Agona Nkwanta.

He reportedly went to the scene and found the victim in distress with her hands and legs tied. He assisted her and was escorting her to the police station when the suspect allegedly attacked them from behind and fled the scene.

The Police said officers who responded to the distress call found the victim severely injured and immediately rushed her to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic, where she was later pronounced dead.

A joint operation by the Regional Police Intelligence Team and personnel at Agona Nkwanta led to the arrest of the suspect at his hideout at Nsuaem on June 2.

The suspect was arraigned before the Apollo Circuit Court in Takoradi on June 3 and has since been remanded into prison custody.

He is expected to reappear before the court on June 17.
