The Central East Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for armed suspects involved in a fatal robbery attack on a mobile money vendor and another individual at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market on June 6, 2026.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, June 8, the Gomoa Dominase District Police received reports that a group of masked armed men attacked a mobile money vendor at the market and fired indiscriminate gunshots during the robbery. The suspects are currently on the run.
Police officers who responded to the distress call proceeded to the scene, but the suspects had already fled into a nearby bush, eyewitnesses said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the mobile money vendor, identified as Hamisu Abdulai, and another victim sustained gunshot wounds during the attack.
They were initially rushed to a nearby polyclinic for treatment before being referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba due to the severity of their injuries.
Police said Hamisu Abdulai was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while the second victim, whose identity has been withheld, is receiving treatment and responding to care.
Investigators recovered 14 spent BB cartridges and one live cartridge from the crime scene. The exhibits have been retained as part of ongoing investigations.
The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to identifying and arresting those responsible for the crime.
“The Central East Regional Police Command wishes to assure the general public of its resolve to identifying and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” he said.
It also urged anyone with credible information to assist by calling police emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or reporting to the nearest police station.
