A confrontation between two youth groups in Wa has left several people injured, with two motorbikes destroyed after a violent encounter in parts of the Upper West Regional capital.
The unrest reportedly followed a disagreement involving members of the two groups at a nightclub on Sunday, June 7, which later developed into a series of confrontations.
Information gathered indicates that in the early hours of Monday, June 8, some young men believed to be linked to one of the groups moved to Nima, a youth base located in the Jengbeyiri area of Wa.
The group allegedly damaged property belonging to a person associated with the opposing side, an incident that further deepened the hostility between the two groups.
Later that day, the tension boiled over when two young men from Kambali arrived at Nima Camp on separate motorbikes.
Eyewitnesses say the two were attacked by individuals armed with cutlasses, leaving them with serious injuries.
The motorcycles they were riding were later set on fire amid the chaos, reducing them to wreckage.
Other persons caught up in the incident are also said to have suffered injuries during the disturbance.
Authorities have moved in to contain the situation, with personnel from the police, military, and national security stationed in the area to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to establish the events that led to the clash and bring the persons involved to account.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has not yet issued an official comment on the development.
