The remains of a 30-year-old electrician, identified as Razak Gideon, have been retrieved at Nsuo Na Ano (Peace Town) in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Gideon was swept away by the Agyei River, which had overflowed its banks in an attempt to rescue a 17-year-old BECE graduate from floodwaters at Atia, also in the Ga South Municipality.
The remains of the deceased were found on Wednesday [June 10] morning around a bridge in Nsuo Na Ano.
An eyewitness, Kwaku Ankomanin, told Citi News that “the deceased was an electrician who was at work. He attempted to rescue someone who had been trapped in the floods. There were two, but one was able to swim out, leaving him. We found his remains this morning. He’s in his 30s.”
Meanwhile, a former assemblyman of the area, Zakari Ali, has called for stronger law enforcement against people who have constructed buildings in the watercourse, obstructing easy flow.
