The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly, Wisdom Osei Boamah, has denied allegations circulating in sections of the media suggesting that he deployed individuals to prevent Minority Members of Parliament from accessing and touring the Afari Military Hospital.
The claims, which have gained traction on some media platforms, also alleged that the MCE contacted and threatened a security officer at the facility with dismissal from her post over the incident.
However, Boamah has described the reports as false, baseless, and misleading.
In a June 10 statement responding to the allegations, the MCE categorically denied any involvement in actions aimed at obstructing or preventing the Minority MPs from visiting the hospital, stressing that he neither sent any persons to the facility nor made any attempt to interfere with their activities.
“I wish to state clearly and unequivocally that these allegations are false, baseless, and misleading.”
“At no point have I made any call to threaten, intimidate, or seek the removal of any staff member of the hospital. Neither have I sent any person or group of persons to obstruct or prevent the Minority MPs from visiting the facility.”
Boamah further explained that the Afari Military Hospital is a military installation that falls under the authority and administration of the Ghana Armed Forces, and as such, access to the facility is governed strictly by military protocols and procedures.
He emphasised that even in his capacity as Municipal Chief Executive, he is required to follow due process and obtain permission from the appropriate military authorities before visiting the hospital, despite its location within the municipality.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Afari Military Hospital is a military installation under the authority and administration of the Ghana Armed Forces. Access to the facility is governed by military protocols and procedures. Even as Municipal Chief Executive, I am required to obtain the necessary permission from the appropriate military authorities before visiting the facility.”
