Two individuals have died after a tipper truck they were operating came into contact with a high-tension electricity cable while they were offloading sand at Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti region.

The victims, a driver and his mate yet to be identified, were operating a sand-winning truck with registration number GR 483-24.

Confirming the incident to Citi News, the assembly member for Owabi Electoral Area, Osei Kwame Malik, said the accident occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

He disclosed that the truck’s bucket made contact with an Electricity Company of Ghana high-tension line during offloading, resulting in the electrocution.

Mr. Malik added that, the driver and his mate were rushed to hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

The bodies have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.

Police in the area have taken over the case and commenced investigations.

He therefore urged all sand and gravel operators in the area to exercise extreme caution and avoid offloading under power lines.
