A suspected carjacking incident involving a taxi driver, Mr. Ago Sowah, believed to be in his 60s, occurred in La, Accra, on the night of Friday, June 13, 2026, ending with the suspected hijacker’s death from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Mr. Sowah, he had picked up a passenger from La Township and was transporting the individual to Apapa, a suburb of La.

Upon nearing the destination, an unidentified man reportedly emerged and ordered the vehicle to stop. The passenger then exited the taxi, after which the man entered the vehicle and instructed the driver to proceed to a secluded location.

According to a report by Dennis Karley in La, the driver identified the man as Ibrahim Mugo, an alleged ex-convict known in the area. At the location, the suspect allegedly ordered Mr. Sowah out of the vehicle and attempted to attack him with a firearm.

Mr. Sowah managed to escape unharmed and raised an alarm.

Witnesses said the suspect then took control of the taxi and attempted to flee. However, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle a short distance away and crashed into a wall.

A crowd subsequently gathered at the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound before authorities arrived.

The vehicle was recovered, and the incident has been reported to the police for investigation.
