One person has died following a road traffic collision involving a KIA Rhino truck and a saloon car at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The deceased, who was driving a Zedrive saloon car with registration number GW 6334-26, was trapped in the wreckage after the vehicle crashed into a KIA Rhino truck (GE 1120-15).

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at 1:16 a.m., prompting a rescue team from the GNFS headquarters to rush to the scene.

The team, led by ADO I Yussif Yakubu, arrived within six minutes and found the driver trapped and unresponsive. A medical assessment conducted at the scene confirmed the victim had died.

Fire officers subsequently carried out an extrication operation, removing parts of the vehicle, including the door and steering wheel, to retrieve the body. The operation was completed at 2:14 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the saloon car collided with the rear of a faulty stationary truck parked on the road. Authorities are, however, continuing investigations to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following the incident, the GNFS urged motorists whose vehicles develop faults on the road to immediately place reflective warning triangles or other visible warning devices to alert approaching drivers, particularly at night.

The Service also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and reminded road users to exercise caution and strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
