The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong caution to final-year Senior High School students across the country ahead of the conclusion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19, 2026, warning against acts of violence or misconduct during and after the examinations.
The warning comes in the wake of recent incidents of student unrest in parts of the Upper East Region, which led to the arrest of six students.
At the Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment, while at the Bawku Senior High School, four other students were picked up for rioting, assaulting school authorities, and destroying both school and private property.
In a statement on Thursday, June 18, the Police Service urged candidates to remain disciplined, obey the law, and celebrate responsibly after completing their examinations.
The Service stressed that acts such as violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other unlawful behaviours carry serious criminal consequences, adding that such actions could jeopardise students’ futures and undo years of academic effort.
It further warned that it will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in criminal acts.
“The Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct,” the statement said.
The Police also urged students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, peace, and order within schools and surrounding communities.
