Family, friends, and colleagues of 26-year-old lawyer Sarah Araba Tettey are mourning her sudden death after she reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama on Wednesday.
Sarah, an alumna of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and was practising with O & A Legal Consult, according to sources familiar with the matter.
She was reportedly watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private hostel at Bomso near KNUST, when the incident occurred.
Witnesses said she suddenly collapsed during celebrations that followed Ghana’s victory.
She was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, popularly known as Tech Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes in an effort to save her life.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
News of her death has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity, particularly among members of the KNUST law community and her colleagues from the Ghana School of Law, many of whom knew her personally.
Known to friends and colleagues simply as Araba Tettey, she was widely admired for her professionalism and promise as a young legal practitioner.
Her death has left many grieving the loss of what they describe as a bright and promising legal mind.
Her body has since been deposited at the KNUST Medical School mortuary pending further arrangements.
The exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be officially communicated by her family or medical authorities.
