A woman has died while three men sustained injuries in a road crash involving a trailer truck at Kariminga in the North East Region.

The accident occurred on Thursday, June 18, when a Takoradi-Burkina Faso-bound trailer carrying Twyford tiles veered off the road and crashed into several trees.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), said a distress call was received at 9:48 a.m., prompting the deployment of a rescue team from the Upper East Regional Headquarters Sub-Station to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found four occupants trapped in the severely mangled trailer head. Three male victims were successfully rescued and transported by the National Ambulance Service to the Upper East Regional Hospital for treatment.

The female occupant, however, was found dead at the scene.

Her body was handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.

The rescue operation was led by Station Officer I Bright Atimbiok and a six-member crew, with support from the Bolgatanga Municipal Commander, DO II Callistus Nibunu, and other senior officers.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer was travelling from Takoradi to Burkina Faso when a tricycle allegedly crossed its path at Kariminga.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver reportedly swerved into a ditch before crashing into several trees.

The impact caused extensive damage to the trailer head and destroyed a significant portion of the cargo, although some boxes of tiles were salvaged.

The rescue operation ended at 1:40 p.m., while investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the crash.
