A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for disciplinary action against former flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, urging the party to consider either suspending or expelling him over what he describes as persistent criticism of the party and its leadership.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, June 19, Deputy National TESCON Coordinator from the New Juaben South Constituency, Charles Opoku, questioned whether the NPP should continue to accommodate members who, in his view, consistently speak against party decisions and positions.
He argued that such conduct undermines the party’s efforts and warned that failure to enforce internal discipline could set a precedent that weakens party cohesion.
“It’s not like it was a one-off thing. It has been a pattern of misconduct, deliberate attempts to attack the NPP, to destroy the NPP. If somebody is engaging in such a venture, we expect the party to take action against the person based on the party’s constitution. It can be suspension, it can be expulsion,” he said.
He stressed that possible sanctions should not be ruled out, insisting that discipline is essential for the party’s unity and effectiveness.
“If we want the NPP to be lawless, then we should gloss over this,” he added, warning that ignoring the issue could make the party “ungovernable” in the future.
He further cautioned that allowing members to openly criticise party strategies or act against its interests during critical moments could erode unity and weaken respect for leadership within the party.
