Parliament Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has revealed plans to engage the Secretariat of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to release some machines into districts in the Eastern Region battling with floods.

According to the committee, it has taken notice of roads in the Region which needs immediate attention and will appeal to the Minister for Roads and Highways to come to their aid.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr made this known during her remarks at a Parliamentary capacity building engagement with MMDCE’s, Coordinating Directors and Assembly Members in the region aimed at strengthening local governance.

“The Eastern Region holds a significant place in Ghana’s development landscape with its natural resources, agricultural potential and growing urban centres,” she noted, stessing that the region continues to play a critical role in the country’s economic transformation.

On her part the Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey urged the assemblies to leverage technology, strengthen revenue database, improve property rate administration and enhance monitoring and supervision of revenue collectors.

“Equally important is the need to institute robust accountability mechanisms to identify and eliminate revenue leakages,” she added.
