A fire outbreak on Sunday, June 21, allegedly triggered by a minor landslide that brought down an electricity pole, has destroyed a premix fuel station at the Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour in Sekondi in the Western Region.
According to eyewitness accounts, heavy rainfall on Sunday caused part of the hilly terrain around the fishing harbour to give way, leading to the collapse of an electricity pole onto the premix fuel storage facility.
The impact reportedly sparked the inferno, which also gutted two vehicles, as well as parts of the station’s offices and ice rooms.
Speaking to Citi News after the fire was brought under control, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney of the Western Regional Fire Command said firefighters managed to put out the blaze shortly before 8:00 p.m.
He added that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
