‘World Cup points are expensive’ — Queiroz celebrates Ghana’s draw with England

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has praised his players for their resilience after Ghana secured a hard-fought point against England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing every point at the tournament as a valuable achievement that deserves recognition.

Ghana held England to a goalless draw in their Group L encounter in Boston, extending their unbeaten start to the tournament and maintaining a perfect defensive record after opening their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Queiroz said the intensity and competitiveness of the World Cup make every point difficult to obtain, stressing that the effort required from players should not be underestimated.

“To collect points in this World Cup, you have to pay a high price; the points are very expensive…the wins and points are terribly expensive. When you get three points and one point, you have to celebrate because it was a lot of runs, a lot of sacrifices, a lot of commitment…during the game,” he said.

The Portuguese tactician commended his side’s discipline and work ethic throughout the contest, as Ghana successfully frustrated an England team that struggled to break down the Black Stars’ organised defence.

Queiroz also suggested Ghana could have emerged with all three points, arguing that a key refereeing decision went against his side.

“We had our chances to the point that they are lucky, they are very lucky. It was a clear penalty [on Prince Kwabena Adu by Ezri Konsa] and a red card. At the end of the day, that’s why I say it was a fair result,” he added.

The draw leaves Ghana in a strong position in Group L, having collected four points from their opening two matches without conceding a goal, as they continue their quest for a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
