Obaatanpa Radio has condemned an attack on its premises, alleging that some individuals disrupted operations, assaulted staff and forced the station off air.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the station said the incident occurred after discussions on its morning programme regarding internal matters within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the statement, the Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Serwonoo Banini, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, and several other individuals arrived at the station following the broadcast.
Management alleged that the station’s Morning Show Host and Producer were verbally and physically attacked during the confrontation.
The station further claimed that the group entered the studios during a live broadcast, switched off transmission equipment, ordered workers to leave the building and locked up the premises.
Obaatanpa Radio described the incident as an attack on its staff and a threat to press freedom and the safety of media practitioners.
Management said a formal complaint has been submitted to the Central East Regional Police Command for investigation and commended the police for their swift response to the situation.
The station also called on the relevant authorities to ensure that all persons involved are held accountable.
According to the statement, management intends to release CCTV footage of the incident to assist ongoing investigations.
Obaatanpa Radio reaffirmed its commitment to professional, fair and responsible broadcasting despite the disruption.
