Ablakwa: I’ve no doubt Black Stars can reach World Cup final

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed optimism in the Black Stars’ ability to reach the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging the players to maintain their impressive form as they continue their campaign in the tournament.

The minister made the remarks when he visited the team’s camp in Rhode Island in the United States of America on Thursday, June 25, where he conveyed the support and goodwill of the Government of Ghana and millions of football fans back home.

Addressing the players and technical team, Ablakwa commended the Black Stars for exceeding expectations and proving their critics wrong with their performances in the competition so far.

He noted that before the tournament began, many football enthusiasts had doubted Ghana’s chances of making a significant impact, but the team’s resilience and determination had changed that narrative.

According to him, the Black Stars have earned the admiration and respect of football followers across the world through their disciplined displays and fighting spirit.

“This is a team that many were not too sure about your capacity, but now the world is watching, and everybody is saying that, look, you cannot rule out the Black Stars, and you better give the Black Stars their due and give them the respect that they deserve.

“So, we are going to ride on that momentum, and we are going to go very, very far. I believe that we can even get to the finals. I have no doubt.”

He also assured the squad of the government’s unwavering support throughout the tournament, noting that the entire nation is firmly behind them as they seek to make history on football’s biggest stage.

Ghana opened its Group L campaign with a victory over Panama on June 18 before recording an impressive goalless draw against England on June 23, putting the team in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages.

Attention now turns to the final Group L encounter against Croatia on Saturday, June 27.

A positive result in that match would further strengthen Ghana’s chances of advancing to the next phase of the competition.
