Australia has appointed Ms Keara Shaw as its next High Commissioner to Ghana, with non-resident accreditation to eight other West African countries, in a move aimed at deepening diplomatic, trade and regional cooperation ties.

The appointment, announced on Sunday, July 5, 2026, also covers Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

According to a media release from Australia’s High Commission, Australia and Ghana continue to maintain strong bilateral relations anchored on Commonwealth ties and long-standing people-to-people connections.

It noted that Ghana’s political stability and regional leadership make it a key partner for Australia, with both countries expanding cooperation in trade and investment, the resources sector, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The statement further highlighted ongoing collaboration between Australia and African nations in promoting peace, stability and security across the West African sub-region.

Ms Shaw is a career diplomat with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She has previously served in Indonesia and Zimbabwe and also held the position of Acting High Commissioner to Mauritius.

Australia said her appointment reflects its commitment to strengthening engagement with Ghana and the wider region through experienced diplomatic leadership.

The government also expressed appreciation to outgoing High Commissioner Berenice Owen-Jones for her service since 2022, noting her contribution to advancing Australia’s interests in Ghana during her tenure.
