Sanitation officers deployed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have arrested 11 additional persons for violating sanitation laws, bringing the total number of offenders prosecuted since Monday, July 6, to 22.
The latest arrests were made during an intensified enforcement exercise by the sanitation taskforce within the Dichemso Electoral Area, where officers uncovered several insanitary conditions in homes and public facilities.
The operation, which began on Monday, continued on Tuesday as the taskforce moved through parts of the community to identify and prosecute individuals whose actions contravene sanitation regulations.
During the second day of the exercise, officers discovered poor sanitary conditions at several locations, including the Special Light International School, where the washrooms, compound and other areas of the facility were found in an unkempt state.
Authorities said the condition of the school was a major concern, with officers considering further action, including a possible closure of the facility, if the situation is not addressed.
The owner of the school, together with 10 other individuals from the area, was arrested and arraigned before the Prempeh Circuit Court.
All 22 offenders were charged for sanitation-related offences and subsequently fined by the court.
