More than 10,000 businesses have registered to access government support aimed at boosting productivity and creating jobs under the proposed 24-hour economy initiative, the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has disclosed.
According to the Minister, the registrations reflect growing interest from the private sector in government interventions designed to help businesses expand and employ more people.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday, July 9, Dr Pelpuo said the government is rolling out measures to strengthen businesses by improving access to affordable electricity, working capital and other forms of support.
“The next level is to give business incentives in the 24-hour economy, to create a situation where people can continue working.
We are trying to let them have cheaper electricity, small working capital, increased working capital and the needed facilities within the scope of government provision to help them to be able to stabilise and to work,” he said.
He revealed that thousands of businesses have already expressed interest in benefiting from the initiative.
“So many businesses have registered now. More than 10,000 businesses have registered seeking that help from government,” he stated.
Dr Pelpuo said the government believes supporting businesses is essential to creating sustainable employment opportunities, adding that a stable economy remains the foundation for private sector growth.
“The first incentive you need is a stable, resilient economy and to keep the cedi strong,” he said.
He explained that government policies are aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability by keeping inflation, the exchange rate and interest rates under control to give businesses the confidence to invest and expand.
According to the Minister, creating an environment where businesses can thrive will ultimately translate into more jobs and stronger economic growth.
