The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that it will take disciplinary action against members found culpable of violence or other criminal conduct during the party’s ongoing constituency elections, following the conclusion of police investigations and any related legal proceedings.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, said the party would allow the security agencies to conduct their investigations but would not hesitate to apply its internal disciplinary measures against members found to have breached the party’s rules or engaged in criminal acts.

Speaking on News Digest on Citi FM on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Haruna Mohammed said any sanctions imposed by the party would be guided by the outcome of investigations and the seriousness of the offences involved.

He added that the NPP remained committed to ensuring that its internal electoral processes were conducted in a manner consistent with the law and the party’s democratic principles.

“It depends on the weight of the investigations or the crime that has been committed,” he said.

He explained that criminal records and convictions are important considerations under the party’s internal processes, particularly for individuals seeking or holding party office.

“In contesting for position within the party, a criminal record is one of the considerations, and such members will be taken through such processes,” he said.

Haruna Mohammed added that where a member serving as a party executive is found culpable and the circumstances warrant disciplinary action, the party would act in accordance with its constitution.

“If it demands that the person is an executive member and because of the punitive measure that has been given to the person, if there is something that we have to trigger within the process of the constitution, then the party will not hesitate to take or figure it out,” he stated.

His comments come amid reports of violence and legal disputes that have affected constituency elections in some parts of the country, prompting police investigations and court actions.

Haruna Mohammed reiterated that the NPP would fully cooperate with the security agencies investigating the incidents while ensuring that any internal disciplinary measures are based on established facts and due process.

He said the party remained committed to upholding the rule of law and preserving the integrity of its internal electoral processes.
