Former Odododiodio Member of Parliament and former Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has emerged as the leading choice among delegates for the National Democratic Congress national chairmanship position.
The latest NDC delegates tracking poll conducted by Global Info Analytics places Mr Vanderpuye at 26.8%, ahead of former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, who secured 19.3%
NDC Vice-Chairman Awudu Sofo Azorka obtained 6.4%, while Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, recorded 6.3%.
Former Local Government Minister and current Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Board Chairman Akwasi Opong-Fosu received 1.7 percent. Other potential candidates collectively secured 4.1%, while 35.3% of delegates expressed no preference.
The poll also places Mr Vanderpuye ahead in all four regional blocs examined. He recorded 32% in the swing bloc, comprising Greater Accra, Central and Western regions, and 24% in the Akan bloc.
He received 25% in the Volta and Oti bloc and 26 percent in the northern regions. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo followed with 18% in the swing bloc, 22% in the Akan bloc, 14% in the Volta and Oti bloc, and 18% in the northern bloc.
Despite the growing interest in a possible successor, 61% of the delegates surveyed said they agreed with suggestions that incumbent NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia should remain in office.
26% disagreed, while 13% expressed no opinion.
Asiedu Nketia leads presidential race
In the party’s potential 2028 presidential contest, Mr Asiedu Nketia remains ahead with 27%, although his support declined from 29% in April.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson placed second with 22%, up from 19% in the previous poll.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu suffered the largest decline, falling from 11% to 6%. Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang dropped from 8% to 7%, while Chief of Staff Julius Debrah declined from 8% to 5%.
Former University of Professional Studies Vice-Chancellor Professor Joshua Alabi and Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku each secured 1%. The number of undecided delegates increased from 24% in April to 30% in July.
A head-to-head contest between Mr Asiedu Nketia and Dr Ato Forson was described by the pollsters as statistically tied. Mr Asiedu Nketia obtained 34%, Dr Ato Forson secured 33%, while another 33% remained undecided.
The survey was conducted between July 8 and 14, 2026, among 5,637 NDC delegates across all 16 regions.
Global InfoAnalytics used probability random sampling and computer-assisted telephone interviews. The poll has a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 1.7%.
