The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman at Abompe New Site, a suburb of Obuasi.
The suspect, identified as Seidu Masawudu, alias Marshall, was arrested at Soe in Bongo, near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, following an intelligence-led operation by the police.
His 22-year-old girlfriend, a native of Tweapease near Obuasi, was also arrested during the operation.
Addressing the media, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said Seidu Masawudu was on the wanted list of the Obuasi Police Command in connection with the murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman on July 9, 2026.
He explained that at about 2:20am on the said day, the Obuasi District Police received a distress call that a group of young men allegedly led by Marshall, armed with a firearm and cutlasses, had attacked the victim and inflicted severe wounds on him.
The police dispatched a team to the scene, but the suspects had fled before their arrival. The victim was subsequently rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer.
DCOP Nyaaba said investigations into the incident led the police to intelligence that the suspect had sought refuge in Bongo, prompting the operation that resulted in his arrest on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to the killing and identified several other individuals he claimed were involved in the incident. They include Happy Bowmin alias Oboy, Mallam Karim, Malik, Balanga, Basit, Nazir, Nuhu, and Jedus alias Baron.
The suspect reportedly told police that the attack was linked to a gang rivalry.
The police command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and assured the public that they would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, Seidu Masawudu is expected to be arraigned before court following the police briefing.
DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region while warning criminals that the Ashanti South area would not be a safe haven for criminal activities.
