The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) from proceeds generated from the sale of 17 gold bars seized from illicit gold traders in 2025.

The presentation, announced by GoldBod in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 15, forms part of the Board’s reward policy aimed at encouraging intelligence-led operations and strengthening collaboration with state security agencies in the fight against illegal gold trading.

GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, explained that the funds were distributed in line with the Board’s framework for rewarding credible information and recognising the contributions of institutions and individuals involved in enforcement operations.

According to him, 10% of the proceeds was allocated to the informant whose intelligence led to the seizure of the gold bars.

“In recognition of the bravery and sacrifice of the officers involved, the GoldBod Board of Directors approved an additional 20% for the NACOC officers who risked their lives during the operation, while the remaining 20% was awarded to NACOC as an institution for deploying its personnel and resources,” he said.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of NACOC, the Commission’s Director-General, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, commended GoldBod for fulfilling its commitment under the reward scheme.

He said NACOC remains committed to deepening its partnership with GoldBod to combat illegal gold trading and other activities that threaten Ghana’s mineral resources sector.

GoldBod said the initiative demonstrates its commitment to promoting actionable intelligence, improving cooperation with security agencies, and protecting Ghana’s gold resources through stronger enforcement against illicit trade.
