NSA pushes for GH¢1,200 allowance for service personnel

The National Service Authority (NSA) says it is working to secure an increase in the monthly allowance paid to National Service Personnel from the current GH¢715 to at least GH¢1,200.

Deputy Director-General of the NSA, Fuseini Donkor, said the Authority has presented its case to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and is hopeful that the request will be considered in the 2026 national budget.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 22, Mr. Donkor explained that efforts are ongoing through the NSA Director-General and the Board Chairman to engage relevant stakeholders to approve the adjustment.

“They take GH¢715 per month, so we are hoping to increase it to at least GH¢1,200,” he said.

He noted that although the proposal was presented to the Fair Wages Committee, it was not captured in the 2025 budget.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t captured in the 2025 budget. I know my DG and the Board Chairman are still pushing. We are hoping that in the 2026 budget, there could be a favour and grace on us,” he added.

Donkor said the increase would help improve the welfare of National Service Personnel, who continue to provide support across various sectors of the economy.
