The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has accused the Odododiodio MP , Nii Lante Vanderpuye, of “stoking partisan fire” in the planned demolition exercise in Agbogbloshie.

Mr. Vanderpuye has said he may drag the AMA to court over the planned demolition in his constituency.

“What the AMA wants to do is that they want to bully people to take their lands in order to sustain their revenue generation,” the Odododiodio MP said previously.

The exercise, when embarked upon, will affect over 1000 structures along the railway line, spanning from the Accra Breweries Company to the Agbogbloshie station in Accra.

Speaking on Citi TV’s Face to Face, Mr. Adjei Sowah said the opposition National Democratic Congress MP was welcome to take his pleas to court.

“If you want to go to court, the court is open for you to go there. Is there a need for you to hold a press conference and tell the whole world that you want to go to court?”

The AMA boss also kicked against the MP laying claim to the people of Agbobgbloshie just because he represents them in Parliament.

Mr. Adjei Sowah said “it is very important to make the case that it is our people” and that the Assembly had to “be mindful of the safety of everyone.”

“So if decisions are being taken in the supreme interests of this country and people could think that they can take political advantage of it, I consider such people as desperate politicians and they should think about this country and the safety of everyone.”

“Wait until you get to 2020 before you start talking about partisan political issues, but if in your mind, it is about party politics; NDC-NPP, I will not fall for that.”

The Assembly is looking to demolish the structures to make way for a particular piece of land for some tomatoes sellers.

In the meantime, Mr. Adjei Sowah said the Assembly has been engaging the people ahead of the demolition.

“All that we have been doing all this while is an engagement. They have been engaged not once, not twice, on several occasions.”
