Gov’t interference affecting good corporate governance – Institute of Directors

The Institute of Directors Ghana ( IoD-Gh ) is calling for an end in political interference in the work of directors in state institutions.

According to IoD- GH heads of institutions in the public sector and government agencies will continue to perform abysmally if the government does not stop interfering with the day to day activities of these institutions.

The politicisation of public institutions by the successive government is crippling their activities making them not able to deliver as expected.

In an interview with Citi News at the inauguration of the Eastern Regional Chapter of Institute of Directors Ghana (IOD-GH), Prof. John Bright K Aheto, the Chairman of Educational Capacity Development and a fellow of IoD said government interference with the work of directors is affecting good corporate governance.

“We can only move away from this if we are able to develop corporate good governance for the nation which is sustainable and credible, we need to stop and say we have all had enough with interference from successive governments,” he said.

Professor Aheto also urged Ghana to learn from fellow African state Rwanda.

“After nearly 20 years of war look at Rwanda now, we are now going to copy them and this doesn’t make sense because we have disgraced ourselves. Where we are going is very dangerous, we need to work together and understand ourselves because we should be up there leading Africa, we are full of ourselves with no strategic plan for the nation, everybody comes to power and wants to do what is in their own interest and not the interest of the nation.”
