The Western Regional Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly killing his girlfriend with a hammer.

The incident reportedly happened on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Shama-Kumasi.

According to the police, a quarrel ensued between the man, Papa Gyabi, and the deceased, only known as Rita, between the hours of 12:00 am and 1:00 am, leading to the incident.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer for the Western Regional Police Command, DSP Olivia Adiku, said the suspect has been processed for court.

“The little we gathered was that Papa Gyebi who is 42 years and a landlord had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend whose name was given as Rita, a 27-year-old lady at his residence on Saturday morning and, as a result of the misunderstanding, he killed her with a hammer. The incident happened at Shama-Kumasi near Sekondi. Currently, the suspect has been in police custody from Saturday and was taken to court this morning to be remanded in police custody for further investigations.”

She added that the family of the deceased had been informed of her death and that an autopsy is being carried out on the body.

“Our investigations also revealed that Rita is a resident of Daboase, which is close to Shama-Kumasi. The police have informed her family of the situation and her body is currently at the Afia-Nkwanta government hospital for autopsy and preservation,” she stated.
