The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has asked traders along roundabouts, footbridges and various road intersections to relocate to markets within the region.
A statement from the Council said this has become necessary due to the “increasing trend of trading and hawking at illegal locations in the region which not only creates chaotic scenes and piles of refuse, but also endangers the lives of traders, hawkers and the general public.”

All traders and workers are to relocate to markets within the region. Anyone who flouts this directive will have him/herself to blame for the consequences,”the statement further indicated.
The Council expressed the hope that traders will comply with the directive “to avoid confrontation.”
In November 2017, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) relocated traders and drivers in the Central Business District of Adum, Kejetia, Pampaso, S.A.T and Dr. Mensah to Race Course and Abinkyi markets.
The relocation exercise was to pave way for contractors working on the first phase of the Kejetia Redevelopment Project to have access to the roads around the project and upgrade them.
Aggrieved traders
A group calling itself the Concerned NPP Youth Traders Association subsequently called for the MCE’s immediate removal following what they said was his approach towards the ongoing relocation exercise in the metropolis.
The group also accused the Mayor of failing to put proper measures in place before relocating traders from the Central Business District to the various market centres.
