National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Sege Constituency, Christian Corleytey Otuteye, has said that flagbearer hopeful, Goosie Tanoh “has won his heart”, after he had a face to face encounter with him for the first time.

The legislator however said he was not ready to endorse him until he has listened to all other contestants for the NDC’s flagbearer race.

Mr. Otuteye was among hundreds of delegates who were engaged by Mr. Goosie Tanoh during a campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region to canvass for votes ahead of party’s crucial presidential primaries.

Shortly after the meeting, the Sege legislator told journalists “I was convinced with his message, personally he won my heart, and I believe he also won the hearts of the delegates”.

However, he was quick to state that he was yet to listen to other aspirants to make a firm decision as to who to vote for.

He described Mr. Tanoh as well-qualified for the job.

He was particularly impressed with Mr. Goosie Tanoh’s message of unity, grassroots empowerment, revamping of the Agricultural sector through job creation, and developing a sense of ownership of the NDC party among members.

Christian Corleytey Otuteye is one of the 94 NDC members of parliament who allegedly signed a document to demand the comeback of former president John Dramani Mahama. President John Mahama, the then sitting president, lost the 2016 elections to the opposition NPP’s Nana Akufo Addo by close to a million votes.

Some of the said 94 MPs later claimed they were deceived into signing the document to endorse Mr. Mahama.

When asked why he endorsed Mr. Mahama, Christian Otuteye denied endorsing the former president’s comeback saying ” I don’t know about any endorsement, Mahama is yet to come here so what if the new ones coming have better ideas?”.

Goosie Tanoh is facing stiff competition from 11 other persons including former president John Mahama who is making a comeback for the party’s flagbearer slot for the 2020 elections.

Goosie Tanoh launched his campaign in October in the Volta Region where he visited tens of thousands of voters to solicit for votes.

Profile of Gossie Tanoh

Goosie Tanoh is a Lawyer and a politician born on February 7, 1956.

He holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of Ghana and Master of Law degrees from the Northwestern University Law School, Chicago, USA.

In the private sector, he has worked as a Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Transport and Commodity General Limited, Executive Director, Finance and Administration of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, and as Director and Board Member, Ecobank Ghana Limited among others.

Mr. Tanoh was a Law Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon in 1982, and also served as a member of the Consultative Assembly that drafted Ghana’s 1992 4th Republican Constitution.

He pioneered the packaging and exportation of Cassava chips from West Africa to Europe in 1989.

He was a member of Ghana’s delegation to the Security Council, General Assembly and the Preparatory Commission on the law of the sea at the United Nations from 1986 to 1989.
