The Police in the Northern Region have arrested  four persons following exchange of gunshots in the Saboba district by Anufuls and Konkombas.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning at Namba, an Anuful farming community.

Citi News gathers that the Konkombas were having a funeral in a nearby community and went to pick firewood from the farms of the Anufuls, who asked them to leave.

The armed Konkombas threatened to kill the Anufuls who fled the farm leaving behind their motorbikes. The Anufuls went home and returned with reinforcement which resulted in some exchanges.

Fortunately, a joint military and police force from Saboba quickly intervened to restore order.

ASP Alex Yiaganu, the District Police commander of Saboba told Citi News that series of such attacks had occurred between Saturday evening and Sunday morning but no one had been reported injured.

“In the evening around 5 o’clock, two Tsokosis went to the stream side to fish with their motorbikes and they were attacked by Konkombas and they took the motorbikes away. They also went and informed their people, mobilized and come back and exchanged gun fires with them.

The police and military team went there and disperse all of the them. Nobody was injured, so today early morning, we came and met the Tsokosis (Anufuls) attack a Konkomba community. The military police team met them in the exchange of gunshot and they were able to drive the Tsokosis away. So they moved to another community, in an hours’ time, the Tsokosies (Anufuls)came back to attack the same community but we are currently at that place, we drove them away. They’ve gone back and as at now, the place is calm. We heard there is another place has been attacked by some Konkombas so we are moving to that place,” the police explained.

A similar incident in April 2019 saw at least 14 Anufuls arrested by the Saboba police.

A month earlier, in March 2019, six persons out of eight suspects who were arrested in connection with a violent attack between the Chekosis and Konkombas were remanded into police custody.

Three persons lost their lives and more than 20 communities were burnt in that incident.
