‘I wasn’t responsible for ministerial reshuffle’ – Akoto Osei

The Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, has denied reports that his evaluation of the performance of some Ministers of State led to President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffle last year.

Dr. Akoto Osei said though his work is to ensure that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies work according to the President’s vision, the President has the ultimate power to reshuffle his appointees.

President Akufo-Addo in 2018 evaluated the performance of his Ministers at the Jubilee House prior to a reshuffle.

Speaking at a forum in Accra, Dr. Akoto Osei said he had no hand in that reshuffle.

“Let me correct public impression that when Ministers are fired, it is me. It is not true. The President himself does his own evaluation so when you hear that people are being trained, do not take it that it is because of the work I have done. We serve as a tool for Cabinet to check on itself so we know where we are going and we do the right thing.”

In February, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reshuffled some ministers in his government.

Among the changes was the removal of Catherine Afeku as the Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture.

Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister was also reassigned – his position was taken over by Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih.

Other changes announced in the reshuffle were the coming of Gifty Twum Ampofo and Freda Prempeh as Deputy Education Minister and Deputy Gender, Children and Social Protection minister respectively.
