The Bryan Acheampong Foundation has presented a scholarship cheque of Two Hundred and Eight Thousand, Two Hundred And Fifty Ghana Cedis to the Presbyterian University College.
The amount is part payment of the total scholarship value of GH¢429,000.00 (Four Hundred and twenty-nine thousand Ghana cedis) being awarded to teachers within the Kwahu East municipality in the Eastern Region. The cheque was received by the President of the Presbyterian University College, Rev. Prof Addo Obeng.
Making the presentation, Hon. Bryan Acheampong who is also the member of Parliament for the area, expressed personal joy in the opportunity given BAF to sponsor the postgraduate education of seventy teachers while another thirty teachers will also be shortlisted to pursue undergraduate courses at the Presbyterian University College. The Honorable Minister implored the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the Bryan Acheampong Foundation so that the scholarship scheme would be extended to the advantage of many other teachers.
He disclosed, that “BAF as a foundation has a 20-year plan to turn the whole of the Kwahu area into a college town, where the society is infused with learned people who act as change agents in turning around the fortunes of the community.” Catering to the welfare of teachers, students and the provision of more educational facilities are the three basic factors which have helped developed countries to successfully turn communities into college towns.
To this end, Hon. Bryan Acheampong called on other citizens who could sponsor just a student, to do so without having to wait for an opportunity to sponsor lots of students, as has been done by BAF.
Highlighting other interventions of BAF (the maternal health initiative, student mentee programme, Thrift shop for the ageing, Youth-in-apprenticeship -YIA and Livelihood empowerment), Hon. Bryan Acheampong was optimistic that BAF, will touch more lives this year, with the allocation of about GH¢1.5 million funds for its various social interventions programmes.
Reverend Professor Addo Obeng, thanked the Bryan Acheampong Foundation for a worthy cause and charged the beneficiaries to submit themselves wholly for the programme. He reiterated, the need for the beneficiaries to stay within the community to impart their enhanced skills after completing the scholarship programme which they have freely received.
