South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed appreciation to African leaders for the support offered his country at the peak of the xenophobic attacks.
Mr. Ramaphosa said the help offered by African leaders brought the situation under control.
The South African leader, speaking at a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, said he was eternally grateful for the gesture.
“We also want to thank you for the support that you not only gave us in the past of our struggle but also to enable us to accede to become at the UN level on the security council as a non-permanent member. We are seeking to execute that role on behalf of the continent, advancing the interests of the continent, and we thank you for that. I also want to thank you for having received my envoys who came here after the challenging period that we as South Africans went through.
It’s been a challenging period, the issue of migration; the way it flows into our country and the way it is dealt with in our country continues to be a false lie that we need to continue addressing and I would like to thank you for the very constructive manner in which you communicated messages to the envoys which finally came to me. I am eternally grateful”.
Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Ghana today for a day’s state visit.
The South African government in a press release said the working visit was to provide an opportunity for South Africa to explore new areas of cooperation with Guinea, Ghana, and Togo, “and to promote increased trade and investment flows to the mutual benefit of the peoples of the four countries.”
