To contribute to the alleviation of the socio-economic impact of restrictions associated with COVID-19 prevention, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has donated some food items to the traditional councils of Nungua, Tema and Kpone, for onward distribution to those in need within these communities.
In view of the impact of the recent restrictions in movements of persons observed in some parts of the country, including economic hardship for those who rely on daily income for survival, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority sought to immediately help bring relief to people who reside under the Kpone, Tema and Nungua traditional communities who have contributed to creating an enabling environment for the port community to thrive.
Presenting the items, the Principal Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer at GPHA, Samuel Agyemang said the port authority believes the items will go a long way to relieve the people from some level of suffering.
“The Port Authority understands the level of the difficulty some people are going through so we decided to hand over this token for you to give to the people you feel or know are in need of such items.”
The representatives of the various traditional councils expressed gratitude to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority for coming to their aid, and promised to evenly distribute the goods to the needy.
“We say thank you and we are very grateful to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority for coming to our aid in these times of need,” Nii Tetteh Ottoo II, the Chief of Kpone Traditional Area expressed.
“We shall make sure we give these items to the needy,” the Shipi and Stool Secretary of the Nungua Traditional Council, Nii Armarh Sompunu II added.
The Chief of East Legon, Nii Affotey Srawa II, on behalf of the Nungua Mantse King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III also expressed enormous gratitude to the Management of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and urged other institutions to emulate the good deeds of the G.P.H.A.
The Traditional Authorities pleaded with the government and other corporate entities to contribute their quota in helping restore the socio-economic survival of Ghanaians.
