Former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage Transportation Company Limited (BOST) Company, Kwame Awuah-Darko says he was never paid for his additional role as Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Mr. Awuah-Darko on Citi TV’s Point of View said he never encountered any legal challenges while serving in those two roles because he was not taking salaries from the two organisations.
“I was given additional responsibility as the MD for TOR so I was not drawing two salaries. I was only drawing one salary from BOST. I never took a penny from TOR,” he said.
TOR was transformed under my leadership
When asked whether he had managed TOR better than his predecessors, Mr. Awuah-Darko responded in the affirmative, saying a major restructuring that increased production of crude oil happened under his leadership.
“When I got to TOR, we had two refinery activities going on: the tank farm had overgrown and you had snakes, stray dogs and stray cats. If you sent a worker to go to the tank farm, they would refuse to go. We could not pay for electricity and our lights were going off all the time. Things were so bad that the workers gave up their salaries for two months to enable us to put the company’s finances in a short term together.”
“That is the TOR I met. The TOR I left had gone from 25,000 barrels a day to 45,000. We had restructured 250 million out of the 650 million that I went to meet. We had started processing crude oil.”
Mr. Awuah-Darko was appointed as Managing Director of TOR in 2015.
His appointment was part of a restructuring of the leadership of government agencies at the time.
