George Mireku Duker defeats Justice Abban to retain Tarkwa-Nsuaem seat

George Mireku Duker has retained his seat in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency in the Western Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The keenly contested election between the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), George Mireku Duker and John Justice Abban of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) saw them polling 31,946 and 31,845 votes respectively out of the 93,938 total valid votes cast.

Independent candidate, Joy Jocelyn Andoh polled 29,006 votes with Rashidatu Alhassan of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) polling 2,171 votes.

The rest are: Seedorf Aseidu, of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) with 199 votes and Jacob Cudjoe of the People’s National Convention (PNC) securing 97 votes with 1,242 rejected ballots.

Prior to Parliament, George Mireku Duker served as a teacher from 1998 to 2006 (Ghana Education Service), Special Aide from 2007 to 2008 (Ministry of Local Government, Ghana), Municipal Chief Executive under President John Agyekum Kufuor administration in 2008.

Duker was also the Programs Manager of the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC).
