The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed surprise at the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union of the TUC’s decision to protest the revocation of the license of Future Global Resources Limited, operators of the Bogoso Prestea Mines.
The Ministry explains that negotiations are advanced to bring a finality to the matter.
However, the union insists the Ministry has been resistant despite Minerals Commission’s recommendations to revoke the license because the company lacks financial capability to manage the mine effectively since 2020.
The Lands Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Abraham Otabil called for patience as the minstry works to resolve the impasse.
“We have held discussions with the union and the Minister and the matter is on the table and is being resolved. We are going to get a solution to it and hitting the street may not be the best option.
“We need to understand the dynamics because you cannot just get up and profess solutions. We need to listen and make informed decisions that will inure to the benefit of all parties and so like I indicated, the Ministry has held discussions with the union and it is only proper for now that, those decisions are finalised to reach an amicable solution rather than protesting.”
